I was using OpenRails and trying to zoom in or out is not working. I tried using the default commands (PageUp and PageDown) but no help, all it does with these keys is to 'pan' the view, not zooming. I'd have to exit and change the POV settings manually and start all over which is a pain. Why does it do that? Is there a way to just zoom in and out? I'm using OR version 0.9 stable version.

OpenRails always worked that way as far as I know.
I made a patch, so in external views, you can change the FOV with the mousewheel. As I'm not a team member, it hasn't made it to SVN yet. See this thread: http://www.elvastowe...s-is-wonderful/

Have you considered trying a later experimental release? You still have to exit the sim to change the FOV settings but there have been a lot of improvements and fixes since v0.9. I think you will find a more enjoyable experience.

James, have you tried A Tejesembers modified code and do you think it is a worthwhile addition to the project?

I know this does not solve your immediate problem. Raildriver has a zoom rocker switch that is functional with Open Rails, use it all the time. It is somewhat limited (in respect to how close and far away you can zoom) and I have not experimented to see if the angle of view can be altered.

Mousewheel zoom is working in most exterior views in X_2027. Up/down/left/right arrows can change angle, and Ctrl+up or down arrows can change camera height.
