Are there plans to implement the viewing of restricted speed zones on an activity path in the Track Monitor Window? Are they implemented already and I'm just missing something. Cheers rhs (Gerry)

I asked the question about temporary speedlimits and their implementation a while back, and IIRC or they didn´t Change it in the meantime, restrictes Speed zones are not yet implemented.

Cheers, Markus

Thanks Markus, has anyone asked about mileposts appearing in the Track Monitor Window? I know a lot of this small stuff will eventually get taken care of. More important issues to be done first.

Yes, both restricted speed zones and mileposts should be in there eventually. :)

Currently mileposts appear trackside only. Restricted speed zones are not implemented at all, I don't think, but people have looked at it.

Just committed the code to show restricted speed zones in the track monitor. Not sure how to show the worker though.

Good News, like it ;)

Now, allow me one more question: Will defective signals be implemented too?

Cheers, Markus

Certainly not the way it was implemented in MSTS - for that was quite unrealistic, for many systems anyway (specifically in this part of the world).
If a signal fails, it is not 'just red', or black, with all other signals ahead working normally - and without the driver knowing about it.

Generally, if a signal fails, it is at danger, but the signals ahead of it will have the appropriate approaching aspect. Also, the driver will be informed through operation notices and often a temporary speed restriction will be imposed.
There may be more measures - sometimes even complete closure of the line in question - depending on the cause of the failure, i.e. just a blown lamp (or damaged wire etc. for semaphore), power failure, failure of other control equipment, or track circuit failure. Many a time I have waited for quite some time for trains to restart, or had to make a detour or use a replacement bus service because of a signal failure.

So, for starters, it will have to be decided what type of signal failure we should implement, what the state of the signal is to be, how the driver is to be informed etc.

One realistic way to implement signal failures is this : when an activity is started, a notice will appear : "your train is cancelled due to a signal failure" - and the program terminates. I doubt that such an implementation would be appreciated, though.

Regards,
Rob Roeterdink

It's not always as bad. On youtube I have seen a video of the Gotthard route, where a distant signal (Vorsignal in German) was completely off. The train driver reduced speed as if next normal signal would be at stop; such signal however was found to be clear and so the train driver accelerated again.
Of course if it is a normal signal which is black, at least a communication with the traffic controller has to take place to proceed, but for sure the train cannot disappear...

Thanks for all the info.

And reading Rob´s thoughts about it, it appears to me that sometime back we already had this discussion... I´ll have to dig a Little with the search tool ;)

 again for re-aswering this question ^_^

Cheers, Markus
