Hi

I have a question about pivoting couplers in Open Rail [ and i guess msts ] is it possible to make a coupler pivot ? see here what I need to find out ..

Attached Image: pivot.jpg

I want to pivot the coupler on the blue cylinder so it tracks nicely on curves [ it's a big boxcar if you need to know ]

Thanks for any help , would be way cool.

:D

Not sure, but you could try to animate it in a similar fashion to a switch blade. In this case have a central point as neutral, with one animation point on either side at the maximum desired. You would have to give the part a normal animation name such as Rod01 at one end of the car and Rod02 at the other.

Can't you pivot the couplet by making it a seperate "wagon"

A question does the MSTS eng/wag files give this dimension and if so does OR support this at this time, the only thing I can see is an item under

"Coupling" called "r0" which is a distance

As set in the eng/wag files I have looked at is way to short a distance.

This subject did come up from memory a fair while ago, I ___think___ they said then it was not supported at that stage as it meant the coupler system between each wagon to in effect to be treated as a separate wagon.

Hi All

Ah, OK then. I was wondering if there was another obscure option available ;) , looks like separate wagon is option 1 for the present .. I'll go export this puppy and and see how it looks.

:) muchly for the replies.

Oh ok.

Would be nice if the development team can give atleast animation part names for OR to read in future like what already exist to read like Rod, Wheels, Doors and side numbers 00, 11, 22, 12, 21 etc. Why not names like examples:

Couplers with side numbers 11 (front) 21 (back) would be the base with Stretch and Bunch animations based on new eng/wag parameters similar to MSTS's R0 for distance.
CouplerLever with side numbers 11 (front) 21 (Back) would have mouse on it holding it pressing U animate rotates it to fullest and half rotated would mean couplers are not bunched to open since stretched means the knuckles are secured and locked.
Knuckles with side numbers 11 (front) 21 (back) would be the ones with it's animation rotation for open and close.
Handbrakes with side numbers 11 (wheel) 12 (blade) 13 (chains) 14 (Brake Cylinder) etc.
Anglecock with side number 11 (front) 21 (back) would have mouse touching it where a cutting in or out option button to apply air slow or fast in percentage.

Just an idea.

In MSTS, couplers can be made to pivot by parenting them to the corresponding bogie. As far as independent animation, we will have to wait and see.
