Hi,

The installation guide on the Open Rails website is over 2 years old and getting out of date.

There are some suggestions here for bringing it up to date (see the link "Read the full specification")

Would anyone like to volunteer to work on this and help us keep the project on track?

Well, I myself can´t really contribute to extending or updating anything, but I think this is the right place to mention something else:

Quite some time ago when it was still impossible to specify your own key layout for OR Inputs, I asked if I should do a Keyboard reference guide according to a german Keyboard layout (not the same as e.g. an english layout). Chris van Wagoner then also asked me, if I as a native German Speaker would be willing to possibly at one Point help translating OR. As I now somewhere heard, he´s not with the Team anymore, I thought I would mention that I would still want to help with translations - just in case he didn´t mention it to the other members.

Well, I know this isn´t really what you wanted to know, but somehow it in my opinion still fits to the Topic.

Yours, Markus

A framework for l10n needs to be established first in the code base. MSTS had the ability for localization, so this work should be started right now, it should be a target for OR 1.0, I think. Unfortunately I don't know where to start this process, but an expert programmer might give some guidance about it, even if he is not really interested in implementing this possibility.

If you could do one, I would be happy do distribute it as part of the installation.

Didn't know about this so thanks for mentioning it and I'm sure we can make use of your expertise.

We have done some trials with multiple languages initially for the command confirmations but this has still to be incorporated into the code. There will be a new in-game GUI soon with menus and forms which I hope will also support multiple languages.

I can send you what i´ve done back then, in September (i think it was September) 2012. I probably would have to update this and that, but what I have so far is nearly ready according to what was back then, but for now, you could have a look at the old one.

Cheers, Markus

Here are some notes on updating them - a quick survey so maybe some errors and the keystrokes might be different on the German keyboard.

Hope that helps,

Definitely is a great help, will just have to try if there´re any mismatches.
