Prototype's General Background.
These models represent three of the 150 Class CS-18 30-ton ventilated refrigerator cars the SP acquired in 1902 from American Car & Foundry Co, half going to the Central Pacific (Nos. 37019-37093) and 75 to SP of California ( Nos. 37208-37282). There were also 75 for the SP property, Morgan's Louisiana & Texas RR (50000-50074), and 50 more for San Antonio & Aransas Pass RR (4001-4050). These cars had a very short revenue service life since Pacific Fruit Express was incorporated in 1906, taking care of SP and UP refrigerator car needs. They were relegated to company ice service, supplying ice to depots (including passenger car services), MOW stations and employee dwellings in remote areas for many years, nine surviving up until 1925.
Model Background and Data:
The models were built using Train Sim Modeler Pro by Abacus. They are detailed with just over 10000 polygons. I have given these models 4 levels of detail, or LODs.
Install by extracting the contents to your Trains/Trainset folder, build a consist with your favorite editor, and go.
There are empty (_mt) and loaded (_ld) wag files for each car.
I wish to thank the following folks for their assistance along the way:
Jim Bebenroth, for testing the cars, and suggestions.
The follwing publications were used for research and photographic materials:
Southern Pacific Freight Cars, Vol. 4: Box Cars, by Anthony Thompson, published by Signature Press.
