Have had NO problems running OR on Windows 8...in fact, have quit using MSTS to 'fire up' TrainSim and use OR exclusively now!

I have no problem running OR on Windows 8. MSTS I haven't tried.

However when I wanted to build the source code my self I did have some problem.
Installing VS 2008 was not problem but the XNA Game Studio 3.1 didn't install properly.
I solved this with the help of this website.
I had to uninstall XNA Game Studio and then install latest version of MS Games for Windows - Live.
After that XNA Game Studio installation was no problem and I have download the trunk (1777) and compiled on Windows 8 without problems.

Just a small note: you can use any version of VS to compile the source code, that shouldn't be necessarily 2008.

Ok, I have had little success with any version except VS2008.
VS2010 opens the solution but refuses to load the project files (.vcproj). I have assumed this is because VS2010 does not recognize XNA 3.1. I had the same error with .csproj files in VS2008 before XNA 3.1 was properly installed. But maybe I am wrong about the cause here. Any advice appreciated.

Today I tested VS2012 Express, and I am able to open and build OR without problems. But when I run OR there is an unhandled exception in _main.cs. Any ideas someone?

Cheers,

In fact I'm using W7 and VS2013, but also used VS2012 and VS2008 in the past. I have no problems with either of them since James changed the way the shaders are compiled.

Ok, thanks for the information. I will investigate the exception problem a little bit more and post any findings in another thread and/or possibly a bug report, since we're a little OT here.

I think there are still some issues with running clean code from Subversion under newer versions of VS/Express than 2008, but IIRC it can be made to work with a .config file set up to use the V2 runtime activation policy and as long as you target .NET Framework 4.0 or earlier.

If you have it working in VS2008, it's probably best to stick there for now. We'll make appropriate announcements when we are properly/fully supporting newer versions.
