Hi.

I've been having this error of late while trying to open "Open Rails". It say's there is a problem with the Activity Runner and generates a report of the error. My MSTS runs okay as well as the PRR route but I'm unable to open any route or activity with OR.

Any idea's as to what could be causing this?

I've run the repair of XNA as well as uninstalling and re installing MSTS .bin. I also re installed OR 7.

Does it also happen after you switch to the other menu?

Allen,
OR is independent from MSTS BIN, so you don't need to fool with that. Are you saying that OR doesn't work with the default routes & activities?? Can you attach the OR log file that you can find on your desktop?

Chris

It doesn't work with any of the route's. Default or otherwise. Always has the same message for all.

The log is empty. Just a blank page. I haven't used the sim or OR for a couple of months until today.

Walter

Just recieved your Tri-State route this afternoon. Have played with it briefly in MSTS and It's a little jittery with MSTS. This is why I wanted to try it in OR. But no luck. Thanks for sending it to me. Beautiful road bed and trackage.

Dave

It happen's with either menu. My preference is the other one and not this one.

Chris

Found the Registry entry for OR. Should I delete this? Might that help?

I tried deleting OR this morning as I couldn't find any mention of it in remove programs, after which I unzipped a new one and tried again. But I am still getting the same message.

Also updated Java this morning but that didn't help. I'm pecking straws at the problem without results. :oldstry:

Allen,
I would do the following:

1. Delete all contents of the OR folder on your system
2. Download the zip file again (in case it got corrupted)
3. Unzip the download into an empty folder.

Then compare the results with this

Chris

Tried that. Still no good. Even went so far as to uninstall XNA and re-install to no avail. Looks like it may be time for a system re-install. I hate the thought but when these far reaching problems start popping up, it may be the best solution. I have many programs including flight sims and their design software on this PC. OR may have a conflict with one of those programs. Hard to tell. I have other boxes and maybe it's time to dedicate one PC to just train simming.

Thanks for your help.

Can OR be made to log what it's doing during initial start-up so the crash could be isolated?

This is what mine looks like Chris. Everything is there except for a couple of icon differences.

There's no log file on the desktop now. It disappeared.

Can you double-check you've got exactly Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed. The versions are very important and can't be substituted. :sign_thanks:
