"Think twice about tempting fate"? Heck, if they thought about contraception to begin with, they might have all made a better choice. Think I just heard Darwin roll over in his grave and vomit.
And amazingly one woman slightly injured? Guess the strong really do survive. :sign_sorry:

Capn',
Although pretty graphic images the sound track says that only one woman was injured in the entire incident.

Bernie,
Speaking of injuries. Is that a hole in the windshield? The conductor must have taken quite a bump! :bravo:

It must have been one heck of a jolt alright, but from what I can tell no one was injured!
"The only major accident for the Super Chief was recorded on January 25, 1948 when the locomotive #19L leading the Super Chief lost braking ability while preparing to depart* Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal, crashing through a steel bumper post and then a concrete wall located at the end of the dead end track. It ultimately came to a rest with the front half of the locomotive dangling 20 feet above the street below, with no injuries to the people on board. This locomotive almost dropped in for lunch at the famous PHILIPPE'S the ORIGINAL french dip sandwich shop across the street when it was located on Aliso street. It is Currently located at Alameda and Ord St.
According to an LA Times article from the following day, it took 5 hours and a 250-ton crane to get the locomotive back on the track and then over to the roundhouse for inspection. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
*According to the Times the train was actually done with its service, having 'just brought in the streamliner El Capitan from Chicago at 8:45 a.m.' and was 'unhooked from the rest of the train' so 'it could back onto a switch to another track en route to the roundhouse'."
Info sourced and paraphrased from http://laist.com/. :D
So, from what I can tell, the conductor did not make that hole. Phew! Perhaps a coffee mug went flying when #19L decided to stop for a french dip before heading for the roundhouse! :drinks:
