Dad could hardly wait to save enough money to try out the new color film in his Argus C-3 camera. Finally in the summer of 1939 he carefully composed...Actually he rushed out of the camera store with the freshly loaded film to catch the peddler freight at the water stop! After all with a film ASA of 10 he could only shoot 1/50 @ F8 in bright sunlight, no action stopping with this film!
The old slide held up pretty well through all the years, so when we finally got it printed recently, it found a prime spot in our train room!

Love the old Kodachrome look to it! Is it me, or did everything look 'Kodachrome' in reality back in the 60's and 70's? Just remember my first trips to Vancouver and New York, and everything was just so colorful and rich to my eyes, and the instamatic pictures seemed to prove it. Now, everywhere is drab and dull - even with the best digital camera.
Good stuff Steve. :good2:

Here's my attempt at a Kodachrome effect.
Union Pacific E9 #951 leads the City of Lake Hurst out of Fort Fairfax on the Full Bucket Line. It's got a long way to go to Lake Hurst, where it will continue southbound.

Here's another shot that wasn't posted nearly as much. The City of Lake Hurst heads back to Fort Fairfax after going northbound to Lake Hurst, passing the lake where the city got its name. This consist has an express boxcar replacing the first baggage car. A beauty of man passes a beauty of nature.
