What color did you do the sides and front? Prior to 1938 they would be green. After 1938 they would be yellow. :read:

And why didn't you light the drumhead? :D :good:
Herb, I didn't do the front or side. I just used a simple code of Tims for the rear. I have one of those lamps sitting right here next to me. Red and three greens, the red lens being larger then the green. Did they have lit drumheads back then? I would probably set it on fire if I tried :ko2:

The lights are very much appreciated - gives it that extra touch of realism! Don't really know what I can do about the drumhead- would that require night textures? Has anyone had any experience with a lighted drumhead?

The side lights look good. Are you doing them 'on all the time' or only after 1900?

Here's a thought, Justin, just for kicks. I've used SolidBright material on just the face of the headlights on the Milwaukee Road box cabs. I don't know what program you used to build these ultra-fine models, but maybe you can select just the poly of the drumhead face with the nice artwork on it, then assign SolidBright to it, as I have done here:

The drawback is that it's bright at all times of the day. maybe a HalfBrgt material would be better. Just a thought before I hit the hay...

The fronts are finished. It depends on what settings you guys want:
1. on all the time
2. on with the headlight on
3. on after dark
I suggest on with the headlght. That way if a car is setting on a siding or in a yard they will be off. You can always change the setting to your own preference of course.
I'll be out of town today so you have time to vote before I send the file to Justin.

I agree, on with headlights is the way to go. If the headlights are on at night anyway, the lamps will be on at night, nice and simple.

Boy, those lamps really look great! Out of curiosity, Herb, were the drumheads ever lit?

Great job Jim! It's those little details that just make it MASSIVE. As for the drum head, the dimensions certainly look like it should be electrically lit. I'd take a stab and say lit drum heads really got going after WWII. the advent of diesel/electric\s, and Harry Truman et al doing whistle stops. Beforehand, at best would've been a stamped metal plate hung on the back. No offense to DRGW, but I'd imagine they might've not got any 'rear promotion' till late 50's or 60's? Simply because it was a remote and rustic train, unlike the major national carriers at the time.
