Paul can sure build 'em! The simulator is looking good too, love the grass and general lighting and shadow play.

That does look DANG good! Like Paul's work a lot, but seems to look 'plastic' in MSTS for me. I know he's got all the details and colors right, but somehow only reveal themselves as awesome at certain angles or time of day. But that pic gives it a warmth and feel I've never seen in MSTS yet. And the grass is awesome too! Just spent the day organizing Mikosh's Vegetation, and though he's done exceptional work for MSTS - his 'grass patches' and 'fields' still look so 'Etch-A-Sketch' like. Is that 'your grass' Wayne? You've always had the best grass IMHO.

What's this on the news? Authorities are on their way to Wayne Campbells house for what could possibly be the biggest drug bust in history.... I may have started something? ;)

Thats definitely the ambient occlusion effect that I've been experimenting with. I'm learning that AO is critical to a good look in the sim. Paul's models are particularly receptive to AO effects because most of the detail is modelled ( vs using texture images and transparency tricks etc ) The holy grail is to have AO added automagically by the sim so the model builders don't have to deal with it. But I haven't found a way yet.

I've lifted some freebee texture images for these experiments, but the trick is in the direct x shaders that blend and fade them in for a good effect as you move past it. I'm pretty happy with the current result, but there's still a ton of work to add this into the mainstream OR with features that give the artists the control they need to do their magic.

.. and let the grass jokes begin ...

Chay man, this cat's like mixing a lot o' stuff wit his grass man!

Wow man! The guy sounds like he knows what he's doing for sure man.

Kay-pasa hombre. But there's like one teeny-tinsy problem man... How we gonna smoke dis virtual chit?

Man, we need like a virtual bong or something. Let me see what I can do on Sketch Up man....

(Sorry Wayne, couldn't resist! ;) )

But in all seriousness folks - tremendous job Wayne! Liking this Open Rails idea more and more everyday! :D

That is one of the most promising screens of OR I've yet to see. As stated, there's a warmth to the lighting that is superb. That seems to give life to the monotone textures. Excellent work, Wayne.
