Gah, I thought 'Black Diamonds' was a reference to the Lehigh Valley. ;)

Back in the day, 40+ years ago before I had my driver's license, before defect detectors and cab radios, that black smoke was the only indicator I had that the local was in town! ;)

"Black diamonds" was a common term used when gondolas loaded with new ties hit the yard in my neck of the woods, foremen and supervisors smiled, labor tended to groan knowing someone's got to throw them out of there ;) , Lee
