Hi there,

Upon executing OR, and selecting route when I click on button I error with can't find video card and shadow xxxx. I assume my Radeon Card failed the test. I have a rebuilt HP Pavilion a450n tower with Intel P4 3.0gig and 1 gig memory Radeon 9500 display card set 1280x1024. Anybody suggest a replacement video card?

Bill,
Yes, the Radeon 9500 only supports DirectX 8.1, where Open Rails requires a video card that minimally supports DirectX 9.0c. You motherboard requires an AGP 8x video card. You can get them from NewEgg or other online retailers.

I recommend purchasing a card with at least 512MB of memory. At least at newegg, the Radeon's appear to be the better bargain vs nVidia for the $$$.

It's up to you as to how much you want to spend.

Recent Radeon based cards tend to need less power so if that's a concern it's something to keep in mind. Other than that, having recently owned cards with Nvidia and Radeon chipsets I'd say I prefer the Nvidia cards for how you upgrade your drivers and the Radeon cards for showing your computer screen on a TV.

When the "goodies" arrive from Newegg I would appreciate you posting what the results (framerates, dynamic shadows turned on) are with your purchase. I have not gotten around to setting up an OR session on an AGP card system like you have. It would be interesting to see what the results are.

I you have a moment Bill, please post what you see, thanks,

Eldorado

They sent me the wrong card , it wont fit, so I have to call them in the morning. Wasn't the card I ordered it was a PCI card.

I finally swapped the old PC for a gaming tower equipped with NVIDEA GEForce, Now I can finally use openrails, Trying out on Tri-state. :rotfl:

Thanks to all who replied FWIW the Framerates are in the 170 range dropping to 85 or so periodically.
