Barry seems to have reserved his thread for narrow gauge... ok... then here's one for the standard gauge fans among us, what Std Gauge routes would you like to see in OR (either enhancement sof current MSTS routes or something new)?

For myself, I'd like to see an enhancement to 3dtrains's WP 3rd sub: YO! Nalle! A backdated 4th sub extension (Keddie - north): Set a date of the late 30's, run the highline further north from where it ends now, at Almanor, oh, at least 15-20 miles past Westwood, model the Red River Lumber Mill at Westwood, overhead wire back to Chester, and the SP Junction leading down to Susanville. Add some steam locomotives, some electric boxcabs pulling skeleton log buggies, a shay or two for other logging camps, and you could have a pretty interesting, low traffic, high detailed mountain railroad: Stiff, mainline railroading by the WP and SP, lumber railroading right in the middle by the Red River Co.

2nd on my list would be backdating the Soldier Summit route to the late 40's. Add the coal mines that were still working and extend the Rio Grande to Salt Lake City, doing both the Geneva Steel Mill and urban industrial districts of SLC. Add some big steam and call it cool. This would need either MLT being bold and doing detail work or someone else starting from scratch.

With advanced signalling and traffic control that I'm assuming will come with OR (?), I'd say the Chicago L system in the 1950's. Plenty of variety and traffic going on, plus 2 Interurbans! Can you say rush hour in the loop? :sign_thanks:

Any traction would be good too. (Come on North Shore!)

I've always said that size doesn't matter. :sign_thanks:

How about the Virginia and Truckee? Reno to Virginia City.

Or, how about the SP Daylight route from LA to San Luis Obispo and/or beyond?

Or, how about the MA & PA, the Maryland & Pennsylvania?

Or, how about the San Diego & Arizona Eastern/Tijuana Y Tecate line from San Diego to El Centro via Mexico?

How about some of the Pacific Northwest's lumber operations, like the Pickering or Rayonier operations? Klikitat Log and Lumber, that sort of thing with Pacific Coast shays working the woods.

Or, how about the Santa Fe's passenger racetrack, the Second District/Pasadena line from LAUPT to San Bernardino?

To my knowledge, with the exception of the SD&AE and that only from El Centro to Division (east end Mexican border), none of the above have been done in MSTS.

:sign_thanks:

OK, I think the Cass scenic railroad, Mt. Rainier Scenic railroad, Mt Washington cog railway, the Tweetsie railroad, and the Norfolk Southern branch line from Richmond to West Point VA would be good. :sign_thanks:

If you want somewhere to run a few Shays why not the Graham County? They ran two and three truck Shays into the mid-70s in both freight and tourist service.

Taking the time to build the Mount Washington Cog might be "pretty" but pretty useless after the first run up and down the hill... there is nothing else to do to keep your interest.

I would love to see the NEC from Boston to NYC. Running through detailed, dense, urban scenery in OR should be a real treat.

FWIW, Stanford University has all the construction documentation from the surveys and building of the SD&AE.

Meh, Dave, why not just get the whole four subs from Oakland to the Stateline?

Aha! Good to know! This is my "backyard railroad" as I live on the route of the former Lakeside Branch (San Diego, Cuyamaca & Eastern) now the "Green Line" of the San Diego Trolley. :bigboss:
