Can anyone recommend a route which shows off some of the ways in which OR improves on MSTS?
Thanks.

Route to show off OR

Hi Chris, the improvements are mainly visual....the current routes were all built with MSTS tools and within the restrictions placed on such builds by limitations of the original RE coding.
The best test, under the current revsion, would be choose a MSTS route that is well scenicked and try that.
Cheers Bazza

Chris,
I've been thinking about this ... and have a partial answer. PRR-Eastern Region. While not the most scenic or beautiful, the sheer scale and track mileage make a bear on MSTS, with FPS falling to the single digits no matter what hardware it runs on. With OR, framerates are significantly higher and the whole experience is much smoother, few if any tile loading stutters, ability to maintain reasonable FPS in spite of high load tiles, and generally just better looking. In fact, there are times and places where OR exposes the quality of MSTS scenery objects as in need of upgrading.
there's a couple of issues with the PRR_ER tdb and OR that we need to work thru, but in general it's an excellent experience.

I've looked at the videos and found the huge 1.5GB download :-0
I'll take it for a ride at the weekend.
I was wondering if there is anything small, free and good enough for us to publish alongside the OR software distribution?

The only other one is London & Port Stanley by Wayne Campbell. Smaller download but pushes everything due to its incredibly detailed route

I was quite impressed by Carlosanit's You Tube video on hump shunting. Partly because of the high quality trackwork and partly because it shows a simple activity that MSTS cannot handle.
I wonder whether Carlos is able to provide a model that we would be free to distribute.
Just my thoughts.
