A few years ago, it seemed like the little railway hamlet of Caldwell might have a bright future. Some homesteaders were trickling into the area from the Scottish Highlands looking for a more prosperous life in Canada, the logging trade was thriving, and prospectors were combing the nearby hills with high hopes of finding rich mineral deposits. Tex and Edna Boil built their "Prairie Emporium" to cash in on the expected boom times.
But although the highlanders did their best to farm the thin soil, market prices fell during the recession of 1907 so they were forced to move on. The prospectors found nothing at all. Then the big White Pine trees were all cut down. Finally, the Farmer's Store burned one windy night. Tex Boil started drinking and one afternoon he jumped a westbound freight without even a goodbye note to Edna. She went back to Texas soon after.
Caldwell is still listed on the Canada Atlantic Railway's timetable as a whistlestop but there's really not much point to that anymore, as no train has stopped here in more than a year.

Those shots are absolutely stunning! Is this the Canada Atlantic route you've teased us with before?

Wow, that is incredible! :good: I can hear the winds of desolation howling through those building shells. Caldwell may have zero people, but it is full of character. Nice work!

I stand amazed. Especially the first shot, John, so life-like that I, too, hear the wind whistling through broken dreams, the shutters banging and dry grasses rustling- whoops- I hear a Sons of the Pioneers tune coming....
Once again, great pictures. Thank you sir!

Wow! Just plain outstanding work. It just has the right character for zero population. I agree with timmuir and the Sons of the Pioneer tune.
