Guy's

Could you give us the heads up on what some of the switch designations will be for steam locomotives. As in "Exhaust", "Whistle", "Steam cocks" along with number of items available and such. Also a little info on "Rods", "Wheels" along with numbers of items would be helpful for builders.

Thanks
Allen

Re steam cocks, there are two per cylinder. On a cylinder they exhaust alternatively as the piston moves back and forth.

Allen,
As for Effects for steam engines, we're working on that as I write this. We'll be able to answer your question is a few weeks.

Regarding modelling, Open Rails reserves DOOR, WIPER, MIRROR, BELL, BOGIE part names for special animation treatment. The Development team may reserve other part names for special treatment in the future as requested by the community. All other part names (Wheels, Rods, etc) are animated in Open Rails in a repeating cycle that's dependent on the speed of the train. (I believe that's right, but open to correction). There are no hard limits that I know of regarding the number of Wheels in a model, Wheels per Bogie, or Rods that can be defined in a model.

Hope this helps

Okay! Thanks!

Chris. Just was wondering if there was a list somewhere of available animation's for reference.

Barry. Is there a limitation on the number of cylinder's for steam cocks? I need three for the Shay's.

Thought you might like to see a Shay with a more realistic looking headlight with a bulb inside. I'm still working at getting the glass to have a little glisten to it instead of a flat appearance.

Wonder if AlphaLoShine or AlphaHiShine will work. Anyone know if these materials will work in Open Rails?

I don't believe so; OR currently supports the Diffuse, Tex, TexDiff, BlendATex, AddATex, BlendATexDiff and AddATexDiff shaders and the DarkShade, OptHalfBright, CruciformLong, Cruciform, OptFullBright, OptSpecular750, OptSpecular25 and OptSpecular0 lighting models.

You were right James. The AlphaLoShine and AlphaHiShine do not work in OR. Had a try at them this afternoon. They just display as Alphanorm's.

Only two steam cock emissions for MSTS.

For Open Rails, that's a bit early yet - I've not heard anything about the latest advances there regarding steam and smoke particle emissions.

Barry

I put three into each one of the Shay's in anticipation of future releases of OR. I'm not building for MSTS anymore. Who needs that hassle. It's so easy to build steam for OR as you well know by now.
