Made from the Sumpter Valley narrow gauge tank car #101, this 6000 gallon UTLX tank now sits on standard gauge trucks. I believe this is what was known as a frame-less tank car. I know nothing more about these cars. Brake detail is minimal, unfortunately, due to the high poly count already (less in this model than the SV101), but doesn't look too bad. I'll upload them soon.

If I were forced to write down a short lis of my favourite prototypes, the frameless tank car would surely be on it. Indeed, that whole succession of tank car designs at the beginning of the steel car era is a fascinating study. This is a superb choice, Tim, in the process of which you're well on you way to a Virtual Cyclopedia of North American Freight Car Development.

I remember the frameless designs of the '60s being heralded as though they were some sort of innovation. It only took the industry and the regulators half a century to figure out that the engineers knew what they were doing. I'm looking forward to this one! What a way to wake up in the morning! -Phil

Thats a great looking model. I definitely have a spot for it on the L&PS and can't wait to get a closer look.

Cool Tankcars!

That first screenshot almost looks like a real photo.

That reminds me - gotta load the new cars and do a few runs on the L&PS :D

Thanks guys. I'm happy that I was able to do this one, with a little help from my friends. I'll try to get two of them packaged and uploaded today.

Thanks, Philip. It was fun to see it take shape and finally run in the sim. I hope to make more steam era tanks some day.
