Morn'n Folks,
Working on a new freight car and just completed my first export and load into the sim for testing... I noticed my car doesn't have shadows in OR - any idea why ???
Greatly appreciate everyone's effort on OR... Really looking forward to what this may become...
Regards,
Scott
Shadows - or not ???

OR, by default, only creates shadows for objects that are defined as having shadows in the data provided. Alas, I don't know where you'd configure this for wagons... maybe the .sd file? Hopefully someone who does know is around.

Hi James,
Hmmm - thanks - I'll check some SD files... I had thought it might not have liked the white texture... I don't think I ever messed with any settings for shadows in the shape file - I'll poke around though... Have a good day - sir...

Scott

Hi Eldorado,
Yep - I'm with you - sounds reasonable - I am using a single 1024x1024 ACE with Alpha for the texture... Now - the texture in question only has a very small amount of black in the alpha channel - and - that's to make the cutout of the wheel... Its a small 256x256 patch in the lower left hand corner of the texture... The rest of the alpha channel is all white to make the other surfaces solid... To be as efficient as possible - my plan was to use a single 1024x1024 texture for the entire model so I would need it to be an ACE with Alpha... As I understand it the actual shape has to be modified to be transparent/translucent as well - I only set the transparency flag on the appropriate wheel surfaces... What's my fix in this situation ??? Are ACES with Alpha not possible for use with the bulk of the model as they won't cast shadows ???
OR wait - did I mess up the Alpha - LOL - let me look at that again..
:scare2:
Appreciate the help...

Normal (for some value of normal :scare2: ) alpha blended and alpha tested textures work fine with shadows, but it was never established what was actually going wrong from Eldorado's post so it could be a related issue.

Hi James,
Thanks - if anyone from OR wants the model for reference - just shout... Larry Goss's widely used boxcar has two ACES - both with Alpha - and they cast shadows - has to be more to it than that...

Would it be possible for you to share the current wagon files you're using, including the .ace? (You can send them privately if you want.) No promises when I'll have time to look, but it's probably the fastest way to get to the bottom of it. :scare2:
