Thanks for taking the time to help the team better understand what's going on with ATI Radeon cards. I'm wondering why the "availability" of polygons is so different for nVidia vs ATI - especially with model you have -1GB!

I have a Radeon 4800 HD 1Gb and I am seeing similar behaviour.

I too see this. IMO the key point that needs to be understood is the statement "Using special tools that display the amount of video and texture memory for the ATI cards in game this lack of particles occurs no matter how many polygons are being displayed".
If that's simply The Answer, it's time to look into a different way of generating particles.

I too, have the problem with my ATI HD3870 512mb card, running in XP SP3..
