That is pure art! Incredible detail. What are the poly counts on those AC's?

Poly counts on the 4-8-8-2s range from around 42,000-44,000 polygons.

What impact do these great amounts of polys have on performance? Is this model in one part? Or do they use FAT files? Incredible modeling, Phil. It's a real education studying the polygons. Looks like you made the boiler and tank out of sectioned boxes, instead of tubes- to keep polys down?
Thanks for showing us these WIP shots. I don't have anything of interest in the shop to show WIP pix of, sorry.

No new boxcabs or anything of the like? I really liked those, as well as the 50-ton boxcars you put out a while ago. Are you thinking of producing any new rolling stock?
They use freight anims for the boiler and detail objects. The boiler was formed out of a sectioned cylinder, it just looks like its made out of boxes because gmax displays polygons differently depending on how they were made. Surfaces that were manually created using faces mode usually display as a three sided polygon, while surfaces created using polygon mode, or any of the preset objects usually display as the four sided polygon. I don't really know why the program does that.
The engines perform well, they don't bog down the system too much, I usually get above a 20 fps most of the time when running a train with 3 or 4 of them, but I guess that's because most of the time the entire train isn't in view. Perhaps I should probably experiment with LODs to improve performance though.

With such great looking work like this one has to hope there will be a gmax to KRS shape function made available. 42,000 polys is about in line with what Kuju has contracted for the steam loco going out with their first release of KRS.

Well, yes, there are some boxcabs that need finishing, the Coast Range Division's E39 EF-5 set. I just have to bring it all up to date with the E29/34 set (interiors and crews). But I kinda burned myself out on those, as much as i love 'em. I'm glad that you like 'em too.
As to new rolling stock, as a matter of fact, I have a USRA single sheathed boxcar in the works, and possible USRA double sheathed rebuild boxcars. I just did a retexture of the GN 50-ton USRA boxcar to correct the RGB values and 7/8 murphy ends of the 25000-class, which I will upload here tonight. And then there's a need for a Rio Grande caboose to go with Marc Nelson's D&RGW GP-9 set. Maybe after the holidays I can devote attention to these endeavors.
