It's the Fall of 1948 and the F-7s and PAs are still in the distance so steam often finds its way onto the point of the Santa Fe's premier passenger trains. Today we find Train No. 20, the Eastward Chief, in the charge of well weathered 4-8-4 2925. She's just arrived at San Bernardino from Los Angeles and freshly shopped 2-10-2 helper 3897 has hooked on to the point to help the big Northern keep to the schedule over Cajon Pass.
It's 6:36 PM and the Chief is buttoned up and ready for departure.
3897 and 2925 roll around the big curve east of the depot to head north over the pass.
East of Keenbrook the Chief charges up the mountain grade.
Rounding Sullivan's curve from the vestibule.
Approaching the Alray tunnels.
Blasting out of the first tunnel and heading into the second.
Nearing the Summit of Cajon Pass. The 3% downgrade track separates from the up track at this point.
The helper has been cut off and the 2925 heads east to Barstow.
2925 has No. 20 rolling at a good clip near Lugo.
As the sun sets, the Chief heads east on its journey to Chicago.
I think I'll wander back to the diner...... :wheelchair:

And then on to the club car to mingle with the stars, perhaps talk with a stranger on a train...
Nice series, Herb, nice train, and great engines.

Allen Norton loco's, 3DTrains stainless lightweights, 3DTrainStuff heavyweight Pullman, a Kelsey built heavyweight baggage all topped off with a Matt Doti drumhead. I am loving having all this Santa Fe steam to play with!
Thanks for the kind words.

Stop it---I've already got a pile of Santa Fe units that look out of place amongst the dignified streamliners of the great Eastern trunk routes and here you go trying to entice me to more, all while I try to make trains from all the good data you've passed along.
:good2:
Anyways, needs more Alco PA/PB. :wheelchair:
P.S. Can I swap Monroe for Grace Kelly? It's been strongly suggested she rode in Regal Ruby at least once, so...how's about someone painting me that car?
