The above train has just crossed over the Lobato tressle, and is now heading up to Cumbres Summit. What did I do wrong with the consist?

Is the Lobato Trestle the one that can't handle double headed locomotives?

Spot on, James, yes. Although in this photo I found there's no idler between the locos, perhaps Herb could explain the rules?

Perhaps when the trestle was new, it was either more secure, or they believed it was. After all, would many places install a new bridge if they knew it wouldn't handle their load?

At Lobato, the lead loco would uncouple and cross first; then the helper, train, and pusher would cross, and recouple w/ the lead loco.
IIRC, the trestle is too long for a single idler car; you'd need like 6 - 8 cars to separate the 2 locos. (I'm sure Herb will correct me)

Re the trestle: I would think it was originally adequate for the smaller "C" and "T" Class locos and that the restriction was imposed on
the larger/heavier K's.
