Hovey Land & Timber Co. 4-6-0 #1. Built in 1899, these were the first "real" lotcomotives owned by HL&T. Nos. 1-4 replaced the diminutive 4-wheeled home-built geared locos since operations began in 1895. These larger, more powerful rod locos could handle more cars at (slightly) higher speeds, and rode a lot better than the "Donkeys on Wheels", as one old logger referred to the home-built contraptions.
