possible, "preserving a little of SantaFe"
Also a very special thanks to: Steve Thomas for his fantastically
detailed Baldwin builder plates.
And another thanks to: Edwin Dolosa for his support and encouragment.

SOME HISTORY: (Excerpt from "Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail)
"The 4000 Class, 101 examples of which were purchased betweeen 1021 and 1926, followed the general pattern of the 3160 class. As they grew older in years, members of this class were recipients of various efficiency devices, notably elesco feedwar heaters...were applied where the feedwater heater was not original equipment....
"All 4000 series engines were oil burning except numbers 4070-4085 and [except for 4000-4014] had Delta trailing trucks."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This locomotive as modeled is a representative of a coal burning Eastern and Colorado lines 2-8-2, the last of the 4070-4085 series. No. 4085 was built in 1924 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and carried builder's number 57850. With a weight on 63" drivers of 248,500 lbs, a total weight of 344,800 lbs, boiler pressure of 200 PSI and a tractive force of 63,000 lbs, it was not a small Mikado yet frequently found its way onto branch lines, particulary in the later years of its active career. It is modeled here as it appeared in the 1940's, with its 15,000 gallon coal tender. 4085 survived until 1953.
