1860's-1890's Scenery Object
Turntable Stub Storage tracks with a pair of wood-beam freight trucks.
A simplified version of one I built for Chris Gerlach's City Point & Army Line, without the terrain and vegetation parts. Grey wood textures from Chris Gerlach, all others gleaned from Textures.com. with basic wheel background from Wayne Campbell.
I realize this is a very specialized piece of work, for a period long before most folks elect to focus on. But for small backwoods railroad operations, such as mining and or logging railroads, this piece could fit in nicely around the engine house or turn table. I use it with Rick -thegrindre's gallows turntable where it fit's in quite nicely. It places at ground level so some elevation might be needed.
The model is based upon a similar arrangement seen in 1865 photos of the turntable at City Point, Virginia. The rails are wooden beams since it is used for storage of car trucks. They are on short bents, so the terrain can be manipulated to levels below track level a little for scenic interest (my model railroading background is showing).
