Elvas Tower: Two "Low side" Gondolas - Elvas Tower

This series of gondolas was built in 1902 by the American Car & foundry as part of a batch of 500 cars. These cars, as built, had wood coupler buffers, and four 10" side boards for a 40" side height. This is the configuration of these two models.

In 1923 most cars of this series were extensively rebuilt with the addition of one more side board and cut down standard gauge bolsters and coupler draft gear. This rebuild resulted in the more familiar "High Side" Gons seen today. These two uploads are of the original configuration before this rebuilding thus they are called "Low Side" gondolas.

Both models are included in the same Zip file and use the same arch bar truck and brake wheel ACE files. To install 1188: create a new folder under your Trainset folder and copy the four files that contain the number 1188 (Gon1188Texture.ace, r_gon_1188.s, .sd, and .ace) plus the ArchBarTruckText.ace and the BrakeWheel_2.ace files, to that new folder. To install 1065: create a new folder under your Trainset folder and copy the nine files that do not contain the number 1188 to that new folder.

These models are made from official D&RG drawings obtained from the "Maxwell Collection", and most historical data is from "A Century + Ten of D&RGW Narrow Gauge Freight Cars, 1871 to 1981" by Robert Sloan. Initial testing and all tweaking and physics adjustments was done be Howard Saunders, and final testing was done by Herb Kelsey and Tom Werb. The load of coal in 1065 was graciously donated and loaded by Howard Saunders, and the screen shot is by Tom Werb.
