ORTS Class K27 Mikado #461, with tender
USNG 3ft
By Captain Bazza (aka Barry R Munro)
Originally built Oct of 2009, new version 28 Dec 2019

-------------------------------------------

This locomotive was made by Captain Bazza in 2009 for MSTS. It has been extensively reconfigured over the years by Herb Kelsey and is the most recent version, operable only in Open Rails Train Simulator.

No. 461 was built by Baldwin in 1903 for the Denver & Rio Grande. Originally a Vauclain compound loco with a slope back tender it was rebuilt over the years with a full rectangular tender and first converted to simple slide valves and later superheated with piston valves and Walschaerts valve gear. 461 was used throughout the D&RG and D&RGW system, frequently pulling the Silverton Mixed between Durango and Silverton. She was also found leased to the Rio Grande Southern in the 1940’s and was finally purchased by the RGS in 1950 as the engine was about to be scrapped by the D&RGW. She served her new owner well for the final two years and officiated on the scrap train in 1952. Unfortunately she was cut up in 1953 but lives on in the sim and other model media.

Disclaimer: The D&RGW versions will run in MSTS but it doesn’t like it. Besides, all the cabooses available won’t load in MSTS so ORTS is preferable.

The graphics and shape files are all Bazza and the operational files are all Kelsey with help from Howard Saunders and Tom Werb.

Features

Hi detail, locomotive and tender, offered in three versions: 1) 1937 with the round Royal Gorge herald and “Denver & Rio Grande Western” spelled out on the tender sides; 1940 with the flying Rio Grande on the tender sides, and; 1950 after sale to the Rio Grande Southern. The 1937 and 1940 versions have passenger configurations with dark classification lights use when running scheduled trains like the Silverton Mixed. The 1950 RGS version comes with an optional plow.
