Bridgton & Saco River RR, Porter Forney #4.

In 1901, the Bridgton & Saco River added to their fleet of three Forneys by ordering #4 from the
H. K. Porter Co of Pittsburgh, PA. The new locomotive was heavier than the older Forneys at
just under 24 tons. It had 33-inch drivers, larger cylinders at 11 x 16 inches, and had 150 psi
boiler pressure. The Porter was longer and taller than the earlier Hinckley and Portland forneys
and is unique by having a wagon-top boiler with the Steam Dome located inside the Cab, and
the whistle and safety valves protruded thru the Cab Roof. #4 carried 1540 lbs of coal,and 800
gallons of water, and exerted 7,480 lbs tractive effort. The Porter served the B&SR for almost
30 years with virtually no changes except for the addition of a turbogenerator ahead of the stack
and an electric headlight. #4 was retired in 1930 and scrapped in 1935.

The model shows #4 as she appeared in the early 1920s after the addition of the electric
headlight, but still carrying the original tank lettering and cab panel numbering.
