This is part 1 of 2 which together form a 24 car set of circa 1947 boxcars. The set is designed as a companion to the BLWZT Pennsylvania Railroad 1950 freight set available at valleypass.com/sales. Together, these sets can make a good representation of what moved on the rails at that time, especially in the northeast.

What's most prominently missing in this set are X29 boxcars (available here at Elvas Tower and also in the BLWZT set), NYC USRA steel boxcars (Paul Charland has a free set, and there is one in the BLWZT set based off of Tim Muir's model) and the PRR X31 round roof boxcar (found in the BLWZT set). A representation of the period would be incomplete without these cars.

This half of the set includes beautiful models by Tim Muir and Paul Charland which represent prototypes built between 1907 and the end of the 1920's, plus four cars of this era which were later rebuilt with steel bodies.

The earliest car was built in 1907, although freight car lettering practices changed in 1926, so that's the earliest these cars would be appropriate for.

My intention is the same as the BLWZT set: to provide a single download for activity builders.

Three of the cars included are simple renumbers of Tim Muir's artwork along with weathering (and in the case of the PRR X26, a new roof and door as per the prototype).

The set includes several compromises: the GN 1907 truss rod boxcar should have a peaked roof, but Tim Muir's prototype has a arch roof; The CP Dominion boxcar was 36 feet and Paul Charland's model is 40 feet - an issue I didn't realize until it was done, so I decided to include it anyway. Use is it or not as you wish.

All of these cars are variations of boxcar red -- and yet, as appropriate to the prototype, they are varied.
