Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington #9
2-Foot Gauge 0-4-4T 'Forney'

GMax Part-Built Locomotive - Source Files

-------------------------------------

Some considerable time ago I was working on a GMax-built version of the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Ry's #9, an 0-4-4T 'Forney' for 2-Foot Gauge.

Regrettably, due to a combination of increasing frustration, lack of first-hand experience with US NG steam power, and most crucially Real Life taking away both free time and enthusiasm for the project, it has been stalled for some time. Indeed the last time I put any effort into the project was Feb 2009 - the project itself has been around since at least 2005.

There are a couple of issues with alpha sorting, UVW mapping of the coal bunker, and putting decent valve gear between the frames and animating it properly. The cab is somewhat basic and could do with details, maybe even a crew. The source files might also have some 'funnies' with experimentation with MSTS features (trying to tie the bell to the 'wiper' animation - sadly MSTS doesn't let steamers have wipers...).

Hopefully the adopter of this will be sufficiently used to building locomotives in GMax to be able to figure out how it was built, and improve on the techniques used. It being quite an old model means it is probably possessed of quite a few methods where I have subsequently found a better technique (or not).

Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Ry Website (http://www.wwfry.org/) - information and images
(and keeping #9!)

Brian Carter's "Maine 2-Footers" Website (http://www.narrowgau...com.au/m2f.html) - technical details, images
North East Rails Photo Site (http://www.nerail.org/ {defunct?} ) - images
Portland Locomotive Co. - for the prototype
(And Many, Many More...)

Ultimately it is the above who built this loco - I merely put some of the polygons and pixels sort-of in the right place. And finally, thanks must go to YOU, for finishing what I could not.
