Attempting to install .Net 4.7.2. (OR 1.4 also installed but clicking desktop icon states .Net is needed (although the installer says it will be done by it) Download multiple times but when executing the installer get error message:

Installation did not succeed.
.NET Framework 4.7.2 has not been installed because:

A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

Question: What are the possible causes of the error? What is the certificate authority being referenced?
The log file (in .pdf format) is attached.

Edit: This is brand new Win 7 Pro x64 installation done yesterday (with great difficulty!). SP 1 and SP2 are installed.
Edit: Used online installer at Microsoft.com also with same results.

There is "windows components" entry in "Control panel" where it can be seen, whether .net is activated or not.
In my case, that was enough to activate that .Net, which my win7 already had, for running ORTS.

Hi Weter.
Don't think control panel is the answer, but will check it out.

Under the control pane > programs and apps listing, .Net is not listed as installed. Clicking the desktop icon for OpenRails, the next window says .Net is needed. Whatever the certificate authority is, it is preventing .NET from installing.

Win7 is a fresh install, with no AV or other programs installed. Device Manager is ok but for a unresolvable driver. Everything is running without issue. Have stopped installing anything else until this is resolved.

About ready to toss out the idea of a Win 7 + OR + TSRE pc.

Signed,
Confounded and Puzzled.

It's been a bit since I've had Windows 7 but if it's like 10 you need to go into add/remove programs>optional features>Windows features and enable it.

Hi Steved.

Windows 7 does have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 listed in the Windows features option of control panel > programs and apps.

The box is checked but two sub-items dealing with http are not. There is no other items that show the word 'certificate' which might have indicated something was not turned on.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Craig

Ran a Microsoft download called " MicrosoftRootCertificateAuthority2011.cer".

It did not resolve the issue. Same error as above.

It looks like that is the same approach I used, the MicrosoftRootCertificateAuthority2011.cer.

Will double check it though.

Edit: The link goes to the same .cer file I got from the Microsoft web site. It did not resolve the issue.

Tried installing .NET of a second laptop, same model...also FAILED for same reason. Appears Dell's are not for OpenRails use.

End of running OR on Windows 7 laptop.
