And I still like the idea of eliminating cue points in a WAV file for looping on things like a horn or other looped sounds...

Since we're on the topic, we desperately need something for diesels like we have Variable2 for on electrics, there doesn't seem to be a good way to make traction motor sounds change like Variable2 does for electric locomotives.

Another thought might be the position of the vehicle in the train (front, middle, rear). This is for older multiple unit trains, especially long ones. When air brakes are released then we should get a hiss from the front car, where the driver's brake valve is being used. Unlike a train with a loco and carriages, all the other cars might also be locomotives with driving positions, but only the front one (or in a few cases only the front and rear ones will release air - hiss).

Another might be brake cylinder pressure - for EP trains where brake pipe pressure does not change, and for those that do not have a brake pipe, we sometimes get a hiss from every car when the brakes are released.

What's wrong with the very last statement? Every distributor releases air from BC, during release.

True. Though mostly it tends to be a gentle = sssssssss = rather than a loud HISsss http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/girl_devil.gif

Also just found there is now BrakeCyl_Dec_Past that might work for that. <br style=" font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; ">

Interesting to read. The current SMS method and sound triggers, including variable, etc. work (worked) fine on their own.
At least, if you use the "basic rules" well and delve a little deeper into how it works.
Unfortunately, sometimes in the codec something is "tampered with" that sound triggers no longer function properly as they were intended for, eventually causing sounds to no longer function properly.
(Start/stop diesels, engine brake, brake release, etc as a nice example.....)

Of course, I'm also in favor of introducing new sound triggers, or making them more variable 4-5 -... for certain purposes, if the codec is possible.
BUT YOU SHOULD NOT CHANGE THE OLD!!!

My biggest "annoyance and fear" is if you're going to create a new way in ORTS, so the old one doesn't work anymore.
Does everyone want to convert/reprogram all their old models? I don't think anyone is waiting for this. (at least not me, if you've been making something beautiful for hours/days.....)

Unfortunately sometimes the old models are all we have of a specific equipment type.

Btw, they say, it's 7 variables are currently available with ORTS.

That's new to me... :)
Which variable with Electric/Diesel/Steam are valid today? (except the variable 1,2 and 3)
Or do you mean the variables like "distance" (such as volume to object), "distance traveled", etc?

Sorry, there's no time to search just now.
I've seen that either in official Manual, or on CTN site, so try to look there, or maybe other members would add to my post.
