Currently, as described in manual section 4.4 Using a Non-MSTS Folder Structure OR expects to find both the GLOBAL and SOUND folders in a certain place. As a result if your setup uses more than one OR Profile ( or MSTS "mini-route" )you must also have multiple GLOBAL and SOUND folders, or use some sort of operating system links ( which must be renewed if the system is rebuilt ).

When OR loads it should look for these two folders in the location as described in section 4.4 --- however --- if they are not found there then OR will look for a specified user location and use the GLOBAL and SOUND folders found there. That would alleviate the necessity to use junction or symbolic links or having multiple copies of these two folders.

I think this thread may have something to do with my suggestions, however, most of it is way above my experienceOverall File System and Data Structure

operating system links

What these links look like?
Is said "specified user location" exist, or it's just a propose?

Yes, that's gonna save a bunch of disk space, untill these routes use the same files.
OTOH, why just not place such routes together in same installation profile along with needed Global/Sound file-sets?

These two threads contain information about "links"Links and here Symbolic Links

Search the web using the terms "Symbolic Links" and "Junction Links" .. will also turn up programs to create these links.

A proposal for an option in OR, that the individual user can configure.

4.4 Using a Non-MSTS Folder Structure

Hello.

I've discovered this before, I don't think it was in the manual at the time. I even created a description of its use called a four-folder installation.

Sincerely, Laci 1959

Well, there is nothing about symbolic/junction links there, as translator told me.
But thanks.
At the end of document, there is an important note, so I'll never tell, i've seen it :)
