Before, I thought, those were zapfas for hooking by the crane; today, I thought, that the vents were for accumulator compartment (as our hood locos have accumulator stands at their nose hoods)
Further off top, Sorry, but I was always curious to ask that:
Why even modern USA mainline locomotives are designed to look like shunters with that nose?
The exception is only Genesis, as I know.
I guess, that is because there is much shunting work and manual switches at distant areas of railroads.
As I remember, FOV change was intentionally blocked for cabview camera.
Other cameras are allowed to be FOV-adjustable by mousewheel scrolling.

Your best bet is probably going to be a 3D cab. Back in the MSTS days some of us (including myself and the folks at SLI) created cabviews with a more realistic perspective but trainsimmers hated them because they couldn't stare down at the controls.

That's an interesting post. I will check into 3D. My computer skills are minimal so it might take a while.
