I've been tweakinbg one of my older repaints. PANTHER was originally a repaint of Jon Davis GENERAL. I repainted my repaint and this is the result.

Having some fun learning how to operate a steam engine. Before I stsrted actually building models for MSTS, I ran steam on the main with the throttle wide open and never really bothered with how to slow up the train, reverse, stop, and all that good stuff. Been practicing a bit. Positioning is tough. Managed to get the thing positioned on the turntable, coal tower and water. Took forever to back into the engine house but I finally made it

More Tweaks

I thought of resizing the textures to 2048x2048 but I don't feel I can just go with larger textures and get what I wanted. I did enlarge the backhead and it looks better after some brushwork. Still, the model is from way back, so there is only so much can be done. A total rebuild is really what's needed to modernize it. I'd prefer a straight boiler too. 3D on those spokes and such would look much better.

Hi Frank. I know what you mean. As beautiful as Jon's locomotives are, they are made for the early days of MSTS. I too, was compelled to just start from scratch after messing around with Jon's Rogers Inyo. It was good to get out from under the restraints of working around someone else's shapes!

I have had good results by enlarging all the original aces to 2048's and making my own repaints over them. I did so on Jon's 1860's coaches, repainted for USMRR.

I like the purple locomotive, not unheard of: New York Central had deep purple tenders for a time, although with a little more red in it. It looks like you've desaturated it a wee bit.

Can you give us a closeup of what looks like landscape paintings on the cab?

The "artwork" are actually images of wall papers for computer screens. For the longer ones on the cab sides I used wallpapers for dual monitors. The deer on the headlight is borrowed from the camel SUSQUEHANNA

At 2048 these wouid look MUCH better.

By the by...Any idea where this (circled in yellow) is on the GENERAL textures? I'm thinking it has to be done with a transparency, It doesn't seem like he would make a shape like that.

I did not replace the artwork images, just enlarged the existing textures///So I tried that too....

Thought replacing the deer on the headlight with a panther was appropriate, Don't like it....may go with a black panther.

Just for giggles I added those "Twilight Zone" whirlygigs to the driver centers

Went with the black panter and dressed up the headlight lens. The texture must be mapped crooked somehow. I rotated it but nothing happened. Strange
