With given scale, we won't see double track, if it wouldn't be modified-if I'm understanding that right.

If you delete the tit and rit files, you can still call the MSTS AE and create activities without any problems (see post #8).
That seems a proof to me, that the tit and rit are not nessesary for the MSTS AE.

I understand him as follows:

It served as a kind of backup. In addition, it was used by MSTS AE for the distorted construction of the track during the construction of the activity.

It is used as a kind of backup. In addition, it is used by MSTS AE for displaying of the track map the more informative way (in modified proportions) during the design of the activity.

@Jonas
Does AE recreate those files, once they were deleted? I guess no, though.
Then, backup for more quick map building maybe...

Does steam4me say anything about their purpose? (I don't know now)

All I can say is that I don't see any difference in the track display of the MSTS AE, whether the tit/rit is present or not.
But maybe I missed something in the details.

Only if compare map loading times...
But likely in modern machines it has no observable difference already.

@Weter
This is what I described in post #8. The tit and the rit are not recreated by the MSTS AE.
Only(!) the MSTS RouteEditor does that.

As I typed that question, I have realized: no, it doesn't. (as it doesn't work with route files, but only with paths, consists, activities and traffic)
Sorry, I've forgotten full text of post#8, that I've read quickly at 5 of the morning. All that were there.

Of course, that could be that the tit and rit are supposed to shorten the load times for the MSTS AE. I have never checked this. My hardware is not modern, but it has never seemed annoying to me that the AE takes too long to load, even for large routes.
So I would be rather cautious with such assumptions here.
(Our posts cross over I guess :-)

Well, working with large maps, like Wupper Express 11 caused lags, when I shifted or scaled the map, for instance.

I am trying to diagnose a problem with MSTS AE crashing

Well, saying "working" I actually have meant (English isn't my native language too, sorry), "creating, modifying and re-saving", so, in my opinion, AE can only read that files.

What are that problems? Can I help you?

Sorry Laci, but I still do not understand how "it was used by MSTS AE for the distorted construction of the track during the construction of the activity" (full quote from your first post).

I'm sorry I was wrong.
MSTS AE often failed to load if the contents of the two files did not match the appropriate section of the TDB file. He didn't use it, but he agreed. There was a time when the TSRE track editor did not modify these two files during track construction. Then when I wanted to do a task, it didn’t load, citing a track database error. There was enough trouble with it.
