A recent entry into the world of railroad simulations, RAILROADS Online! has found a surprising niche in the hobby. While the locomotive simulations are somewhat simplified, they're not too far off from running with auto fireman in most other games. The game is currently out as early access. I would describe its current condition as that of an alpha release. There are quite a few bugs yet to squash and plenty of optimization to be done. What's there so far is amazing though, and I would say the future looks bright. The developers have posted a hopeful tech tree of locomotives that includes everything from Porter 0-4-0s to D&RGW K-37s, geared locos of all types, articulated locomotives, and more.

What makes the game unique is that you lay your own tracks, you pick your own paths across the map. Everything pictured below is part of the "Blue Mountain & Southern Railroad," a group project between myself and several other players. Once you've laid out your track, you get to try to run your own railroad. That can be a little hair-raising if you took any shortcuts in the construction process.

The game runs on the Unreal 4 game engine, and looks fantastic. At a base level, I would describe it as a cross between Railroad Tycoon and Derail Valley. It's been out a couple of weeks and I've already logged over 100 hours in it. I think it's borderline addicting. Enter with caution: https://store.steamp...ILROADS_Online/

I can attest to this being fun and addicting, been watching Fleegle and Co. play this on stream since release and it's hilarious! :rofl2:

For a number of our members who're fans of the Colorado narrow gauge, this game would certainly tick a few boxes. :)
