Open Rails 1.4 is coming soon!

For the first time, we are able to make use of release branches to separate ongoing development and the release stabilisation. As a result, we now have explicit release candidates - pre-release versions of 1.4 - which are designated by the "-rc" and number suffix. The Testing and Unstable versions continue unaffected.

Current version: 1.4-rc6

We need people to download the installer, ZIP file, and source from GitHub and find any outstanding serious issues.

ORMT will ultimately decide which fixes are applied to 1.4, but the following is the guide we will be following:

  • Manual and translation updates are fine (as long as they apply to features included in 1.4)
  • Crashes starting a whole route (all activities/timetables) or more
  • Serious gameplay issue affecting popular and/or large quantity of content
  • Anything else which will have a large impact

Please report all issues found in this thread so that we can be sure we're tracking everything. It is vitally important that every reported issue includes enough information that ORMT can be sure it is worthwhile fixing the issue at this time.

We will release a new release candidate each time a fix is made. When that happens, I will update this post and post a new reply to this thread.

We will release Open Rails 1.4 once we have gone two weeks with no new issues meeting the criteria.

You can also preview our release page and detailed changelog and report issues with those.

Tested platforms

  • Windows 11 Home (64bit)
  • Windows 10 Home (64bit)
  • Windows 10 Pro (64bit)

I've already spotted the first problem - the updater does not like the link pointed to GitHub and shows the update check as "failed"

Thanks, Derek.
Which Windows OS was that, please?

Hi Weter,

http://www.allaboardrails.com/oh.htm

It is a historical route that is built on a number of other smaller routes.
I have encountered a number of crashes in the past when shunting around these routes.

The route has evolved, the individual routes were all made with the idea that they could be joined.
I bought the final route that included all previous routes in one.

Cheers
Derek

IMHO another category of bug fixes should be added to the ones that are considered for inclusion in 1.4, that is the ones that correct bugs that affect features that previousl worked. In other words, no shrimp-like steps.

Last night we were testing version 1.4 rc in Multiplayer with 6 players.

The unit does not advance, the brakes are only released with the Ñ (spanish) and not with Ctrl + Ñ, when trying to advance the% thrust does not increase and the unit does not advance.

In the Testing, New Year and Stable 1.3 versions It works without problem.

Kind regards

I would probably include these kinds of things in "Anything else which will have a large impact", although if the bug is minor then I don't see too much point in delaying the Stable Version to fix it, instead of getting it into 1.4.1 or 1.5.

If you have anything in mind, do let us know, though, as each bug is unique :)

Which Testing Version were you running? Was it T1.3.1-1969-gaab878eba from seven days ago? We've had quite a few changes since then and today's Testing Version T1.3.1-2020-gacb86f8f1 is effectively the same as 1.4-rc1

Changes between Testing Version T1.3.1-1969-gaab878eba and T1.3.1-2020-gacb86f8f1:

  • Merge pull request #456 from peternewell/air-hose-animation#2
  • Merge pull request #468 from peternewell/control-trailer#1
  • Merge pull request #465 from twpol/feature/latest-version-registry
  • Merge pull request #435 from cjakeman/installer
  • Merge pull request #466 from mbm-OR/bugfix/Timetable-mode-crash
  • Merge pull request #464 from mbm-OR/bugfix/WindResistance-locales
  • Merge pull request #463 from peternewell/brake-enhamcements#3
  • Merge pull request #449 from peternewell/control-trailer
  • Merge pull request #457 from cjakeman/option-object-density

If you are up to it, we would appreciate knowing which of the Unstable Version builds first broke things.
