I have noticed that the emergency brake valve (backspace key) in Open Rails does not operate in a realistic way.

( 1 ) If the emergency brake valve is opened (backspace key pressed once) then a full emergency brake application is made - this is correct.

( 2 ) The brakes can not be released whilst the emergency valve is open - this is also correct.

( 3 ) If the emergency brake valve is then closed (backspace key pressed a second time) the brake pipe and brake cylinder pressures immediately leap back to where they were before the valve was opened. This is very unrealistic. Once an emergency brake application has been made it can not be released until the brake controller is moved to a suitable release position. In case the system has a time penalty for an emergency application then it should not be possible to release the brakes until the time penalty has expired. Emergency brake application with the emergency brake valve should function in exactly the same way as an application by the brake controller or a TCS application.

( 4 ) The backspace key applies the emergency on trains that do not have an emergency brake valve. Please can we disable keyboard functions for controls that are not specified in the eng file. For a steam loco or an older diesel loco you must use the driver's brake valve to make an emergency application. Unless the eng file contains EmergencyStopToggle ( 0 1 0 ) then we should assume that the loco does not have an emergency brake valve.

We have "combined valve", situated under driver's brake valve, that has dual function:
-isolating this driver's valve from MR and BP, when this cab is not in service;
-another possibility to discharge BP quickly for performing emergency braking.

So far all locomotives have separate control for EB.
WRT Subway EMUs, they have special valve at the driver's assistant side to ensure security.

Sure, Darwin is right, that after complete BP discharge, the brakes can't be released/BP charged to normal pressure immediately.
