Hi All,

I am creating a new steam activity on the Cajon Pass where I have 2 steam locomotives picking up a caboose in San Bernadino before attaching to the train, because I want the locomotives in front of the caboose. When they reach summit, I have a reverse point and a WTP point set up. I manually cut the caboose off first, so the locomotives can run around in the siding but when I cut the caboose off that becomes the helper. I also tried to have the helpers attach first then manually pick up the cabbose but the same scenerio happens at summit. So my question, is it possible to have the locomotives be in front of the caboose and return on their own by running around it?

All help will be aprreciated

Thanks
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
As far as I know, what you're attempting to achieve is certainly possible.

Are you saying that the caboose becomes the 'helper'?
If so, it's probably a .eng file (in order to show smoke in MSTS), so will show as a 'helper', albeit very low powered.
If you're using Open Rails, there is a thread on the subject of adding smoke effects to .wag files here : http://www.elvastowe...post__p__273872

Cheers,
Ged

Yes, Caboose becomes the Helper waits it's 60 seconds then proceeds back. Then if I manually cut off the Helpers they the turn into player_1.

Hi Chuck,
I have some questions.
Who is the player train?
What should the train with the caboose in front do at the summit, after the two helpers are detached? Does such train have other locomotives?
Should the two helpers return to the base as an AI train?

Hi,
The player tain consists of 66 cars I have the helpers(AI train) pick up the caboose and then attach to my train(player train) in San Bernadino. The consist as the incorporated train is locomotiv, 66 cars, 2 helpers, and a caboose. Before I reach the summit siding I cut the caboose off, and for some reason that becomes the AI train. My paln is to cut the caboose off then cut off the helpers and have them return to SB on their own as an AI train. If I keep the helpers in the rear that isnt a problem it works fine but having the helpers in front of the caboose the caboose becomes the AI train.

Thanks
Chuck

As already mentioned by slipperman, if you are using an MSTS "smoking" caboose, that has an eng file to make the smoke, and will become an AI train when cut off from the player consist.

Having the .eng caboose does not help. Can't you first cut off the helpers together with the caboose as split operation, and then cut off the caboose from the helpers as a normal detach?

That makes sense, I never thought of that, but Yes it sounds logical. I am going to try that.
Thank You
Chuck
