I've just got a major problem. All my stock has been fine up to this evening. Suddenly Windows has decided some of my ace files are dangerous and just removes them into the ether. This stock has been running OK for months if not years. I think it might be removing shape files as well. Here is the log file. So far two locos are affected and the sand ace in the HTV Hoppers has gone.

Attached File  OpenRailsLog.txt (73.91K)
Number of downloads: 197

This is extremely worrying. I wonder if my computer is corrupted. Windows security is not publishing any issues.

This is seriously impeding the issue of Mid East Coast as I am now loathed to run any stock. It wont let me copy it if it thinks its corrupt. I am also concerned it might start removing files from the route itself. Help!

GRRRRRRRR.........!!!!!!

I had something like that once, when my hard drive started going bad. I'm starting to worry it's wearing out again

Hi Mick,

>Warning: System.IO.FileLoadException: c:\1msts\trains\trainset\or-92208-br9f\\firebox.ace ---> System.IO.IOException: Operation did not complete successfully >because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software.

This is not a normal message from OR.
Something is wrong with the file. The Operating system is doing something to it.

I suggest you backup whatever you can and check the system.

Not sure what I would check or how I would do it.

Hi Mick

This sort of thing can sometimes happen after an update to your anti-virus software. It may be worth checking whether any other users of your anti-virus are having problems.

Hi Mick,

The OS appears to be denying access to these files for some reason.

Can you provide:-

hardware specs,
OS,
Antivirus,
other system type programs.

When I get this data, I can suggest some tests to perform.

Hi Mick,
If you're using the Windows Defender anti-virus, I've just had the same thing happen to me! This time it was while unpacking upsteam1.exe (from upsteam.zip), when file CH3985_3.ace was deleted without so much as a "by your leave"!!

I found this through Google, which may help : https://tweaklibrary...deleting-files/
I solved the problem by excluding all .ace files from virus checking - it might be the wrong way to go, but as .ace files may be in many folders it seemed easiest!

The original .ace files were (are?) archives (like .zip) but I've not seen any used for many years!!

Cheers,
Ged

YIPES! Nanny Alert, Nanny Alert! Ged have you found any connection with ACE files and Revil or other nefarious entities? What is MS thinking? Never have used windows defender...or maybe I am on the WIN10 laptop and don't know it. Have to check.

If you don't have an antivirus installed Windows uses Defender by default.

Ged seems to have found the issue.

I have excluded ace files as well.
