Based upon your work so far, do you have any suggestions, or should I just proceed in a similar fashion to the data on the "Data Logger" TAB?

Hi Peter,

I'm glad you are looking at the diesel performance issue and I was quite impressed by Darwin's detailed charts.

I've talked to James about gathering all the options which are useful chiefly by code and content developers into a single "Developers" tab. All the logging options would be gathered in there.

For now, I would proceed in a similar fashion to the Log Steam Performance Data option (but with the extra selection box).

Please would you also have a think about how we could make the data logging more flexible so that it doesn't require code changes? Can we configure data logging in some other way, such as a JSON config file?

Thanks for the feedback..

I will add the feature to the Data Logger Tab for the moment.

As far as the JSON config file I am happy to give that a go, but I would need some mentoring form somebody.

Back to the Experimental tab once more.

The Manual entry for this is:

This one seems to be an option which should stay unchanged but could also be set by a slider which slides from Legacy to Current (where Legacy is MSTS-compatible).

Is this a two position slider that you are proposing, for example, it is either in Legacy or Current mode, and no states in between?

That's a fair question, Peter, but could we leave that discussion till we've reviewed all the options? After this Experimental Tab, we have the General Tab and perhaps 3 more checkboxes on the main menu (Windowed, Logging and Evaluation).

Thanks,

My only concern is that I believe that a lot of the Options are Binary functions (either on or off) and therefore don't lend themselves to a slider control, unless it is purely for visual purposes, and the slider is set up so that it can only be in two positions.

I am happy to leave this discussion to later as suggested.

I agree with Peter. If it's binary, clicking on a circle is simpler and clearer than moving a slider.

Here are two more options from the Experimental Tab:

The Manual entries make these options seem very straightforward, but I guess they should be grouped along with the other options that affect activities.

Although 3 examples are mentioned in the greater details section, the most common occurrence (in my experience), namely wheel bearing failure (hotbox) isn't mentioned at all.
