These cars have long been on my wish list of things to have in my trains.

I first tried to paint a set of these more than three years ago and was never satisfied and put them on the shelf for some future attempt. Well, today was time to take another crack at them and I'm pleased with how the new car turned out. I still have some tweaking and then will create a set of 6-8 numbers and call it good.

I still have a long way to go with my painting skills but things are improving as I struggle with learning new skills. I keep hoping I'll find a patient mentor who could guide me through the hurdles to help me move things along. I realize that repainting is a skill that is often difficult to teach remotely but if anyone here is willing to help me improve my craft, I have many ideas I'd like to get finished and share with the community.

Anyway, here's a quick before/after comparison of my car (3.5 years apart). I hope to improve my skills enough to use more detailed cars for future projects but for now, I've been using simple models.

Incidentally, the details of the prototype car remains one of those strange enigmas and mysteries up to the present day.

I have collected what little facts I could gather on the car but, to date, I have still been unable to lay my hands on a prototype photo.

But I don't care. My brother and I have always liked the look of those cars when we see them at train meets and shows. We have collected a few for running on his basement layout and now I can add some to my virtual trains as well.

Happy Monday.
