Here's the scenario. I have an engine facility next to the mainline. I have a player train that passes the engine facility. In the engine facility as part of the activity, I place 20 or so engines, as a "loose consist" on the tracks in the engine facility yard. Because all of these are engines...does OR expend the energy to "run" all these engines at idle. So is the simulation "running" all those engines, which in my mind would take away compute cycles from the AI and player train? Just a curiosity question...Wierd/Odd....anyway...any thoughts?

I always make a wag file for every loco I build. In Diesels, it prevents smoke form appearing, in electrics, it prevents the pantograph to be raised (deleting the animation from the shape), so I can use them in loco yards or in consists without motive power.

Steam I think you need some eng - in steam - and some wag - not in steam. In timetable mode you would only have in steam those needed plus maybe a standby. (In UK until recently diesels were often left running when parked.)

Static consists with speed = 0 aren't considered by the simulator update method, as far as I can see.
