Chapter 2 of the Manual is currently entitled "What's new in Open Rails 1.3"

I thought I might get ahead of the game and prepare for v1.4 by drafting new entries for this chapter. This is a first draft of the list which I've compiled by scanning through the code submissions.

Headlines
  • Monogame graphics replace XNA with support for ReShade and more memory
  • Web server providing train data for web pages on other devices
  • Vacuum braking
  • Trainspotting camera including train-following car

What's been added
  • Analogue clocks suitable for 2d cabs and for buildings
  • Smooth transitions for signal lamps that blink
  • Letterboxing for 2D cabs
  • Manual braking for individual wagons
  • Large ejector for charging vacuum brakes
  • Eames vacuum brake
  • Overcharge braking position
  • Russian and Brazilian Portuguese languages
  • Advanced callon for signalling
  • Coupler slack
  • Turntables in timetable mode
  • Map window for timetabled trains
  • Timetable briefings
  • Water troughs

What's been improved
  • Vacuum brakes, EP braking and air braking
  • Visual effects for steam ejectors
  • Train control system (TCS)
  • Sound events for gear positions, injectors, fireman etc.
  • Traction braking display
  • Coverage and index in the manual

Please would you provide some feedback? Is there anything I've overlooked, misunderstood, should re-write or just leave out? Are items in the correct category?

Hi Chris,
I didn't know about the analogue clock for buildings (while I know that it is available for 2D cabs). I believe that the analogue clock for buildings, by jonas, is available only in the NewYear version.
I also believe that water troughs were already present in 1.3. After 1.3 there has been an improvement of the feature.
I don't know if you consider it worth mentioning, but there is also the feature allowing the rotation of digital displays in 2D cabs.
Vacuum braking has been thoroughly reworked, but was already present in 1.3.

It looks as if there will still be no integration with RailDriver. Is that correct.

I'll investigate and see if we can bring it into the official version too.

Chris,
I believe AI horn blow at crossings was available already in 1.3. What is new now is USA AI horn blow sequence.

I've submitted a Pull Request for the manual now, which includes your point above.

It's not too late to make more changes if needed.

What is the "map window"? Dispatcher Ctrl+9?

I added a Timetable map some time back and had to remove it as it wasn't compatible with both Monogame and XNA.

Now that the Testing version no longer uses XNA, I have restored the Timetable map into the Unstable version and it should appear in the Testing one on Friday.

Since we now have tabs for 2 maps in the Ctrl+9 window, the change renames the window to "Map Window" and the tabs are Dispatch Tab and Timetable Tab.

I hope that makes sense.
