This image shows the situation I am referring to in the first post of this thread. The shadow of the trees shows on the track-bed and grassed areas beside it, but not on the embankment.

Are "dynamic shadows" and "Shadow for all objects" checked, when the screenshot was taken?

Please take screenshot at night and post it here. I am pretty sure that this is a situation where the object does not receive shadows because it is emissive.

Look at the model Shape File Manager:https://www.msts.steam4me.net/utilities/images/sfm_11.jpg
You might get lucky by changing texture modes.

Anyways, where can the object in question be downloaded? What route is this?

Steve

Steve, here are the answers to some of your questions. The attached file includes the shape and texture files for one of the embankments. The route is "Chiltern Route BETA version" available for download from uktrainsim.com. The shape files have "ESD_Alternative_Texture ( 257 )" selected. Do you want a night screenshot using this or should I create one using an .sd file with alternative textures set to 0?

The attached zip file includes two more screenshots. NoShadows.jpg was taken from Open Rails. Shadows.jpg was taken from TSRE. For some reason the shadows are showing in TSRE.

Having got the time ATM to fully check and confirm this. The texture mode is set to "CrcForm". Try setting to "normal" in shape viewer and see if the problem is fixed?

edit. Sorry, I meant Shape file Manager( SFM ), not Shape viewer.

Thanks

Why would an embankment have a night texture?
Does it glow in the dark or something?
I have been under the impression that night textures were for things that are supposed to be lit up.

With the change to "normal" we now have shadows. Thank you

Hi David,

You posted earlier >>>"Steve, Vince, the embankments shown in the screenshot are separate models. The named-shader used is TexDiff.
David"<<<
Was this incorrect? Are the named shader for the embank object (shape) actually "CrcForm"?

Because if it is (was) that's the reason I asked you to have a look at the shaders but still begs the question as to why you stated TexDiff.

regards,
vince
