Helping Matt here a little

These shots remind me of some images taken way back when by the late Otto Perry. Cool work!

I've been following your narrations of you screenshot sessions for some time now and can't help wondering how you come up with all these names.

You engineer's name in this one definitely sounds like it could be of Austrian origin. So, where'd you get those ideas from?

Cheers, Markus

Markus, the crew names are from the actual train dispatcher sheets that have been posted on the NGDF by Jimmy Blouch. He always includes the names of the crew on the various runs.

The train climbs Hermosa hill...

Nice work Ryan. 459 is a favorite. Like you, I really enjoy using that data that Jimmy provides to set up operations in the sim. Somehow it just seems so much more real to know that we are recreating an actual run with it's problems and triumphs. Knowing who the engineer and conductor was that day brings people into the equation.

One that I enjoy is the Silverton Branch train on December 24, 1940 (IIRC), with 459. She hits a rock in the track a little ways above Hermosa and strips the brake rigging and other parts and pieces under the locomotive. 459 has to back her train down the hill and all the way back to Durango at less than 5 MPH, getting in at 2:25 PM. They had to get cold 478 fired up and gotten ready then finally head out to Silverton at 3 PM, many hours late. The train finally got into Durango at 9:55 PM. Needless to say, some folks missed out on Christmas Eve celebrations that year in Durango! :bigboss:

Herb, you have remembered correctly about the Silverton Branch happenings on that day in 1940.

At MP MP 486 ¾, the 459 turns onto it's side. Conductor Fry went to Tacoma to report the derailment, & he requests tool cars, section men & 2 rails.
