Hello,

Would it be possible to implement seasonal textures (and possibly seasonal shapes) for rolling stock? Personally, I think it would be cool to see icicles and snow on car roofs, and perhaps water droplets on locomotive windshields. Could the current system used for static objects be replicated here?

This would eliminate the need for duplicate "snow" models/directories and consists, and perhaps add some more realism to bad-weather and dynamic weather operations.

I understand that the Development team is busy with the Monogame merge, but I am wondering if there would be any interest in this feature for the future. :sign_thanks:

Thanks!
Peter

I believe this is already possible.

I don't think it applies to the .ace cab files, but it applies to the .ace files called by the main .s shape. If you edit the .sd file enabling alternative textures and generate the related modified .ace files within a folder structure like the one available to usual shapes, that should work - if I remember well.

Cool! I don't think I've seen this done before. I'll have to play around with the textures and sd files later this evening.

Edit: Just out of curiosity: Would it be possible to use alternate shape files, or would I need to include the snow on the main shape file and cover it with an alpha channel?

Thanks,
Peter

At the moment I think you will need to alpha out any shapes "not in use".

A suggestion that I have made elsewhere is to allow conditional include statements that could if activated call conditional shapes, conditional lights or conditional physics.

http://www.elvastowe...ude-statements/

If these could take various forms such as

IncludeIf ( Winter ( ..snowshape.inc ) )

InculdeIf ( Night ( ..lamp.inc ), Day ( ..disc.inc ) )

IncludeIf ( EoT ( ..taillamp.inc ) )

IncludeIf ( 25kV ( ..25kVphysics.inc ), 1k5V ( ..1k5Vphysics.inc ) )

then we would have a very powerful tool available in the future.

Ed's Trains CN ES44-DC locos had this feature available way back in 2016. As I recall, there are some double-stack cars have the snow option, as well.

Hello,

yes it is possible.
This package https://www.google.c...gMBp9w3NzDp1QCA
contains "M61 019" with snow textures.
Here are pichtures: https://www.tssf.eu/...91447#msg191447

Enjoy and have fun.

Greetings
Arnold

Cool!
I've remembered an Indian project of early 2000-th, been seen on trainsim.com It was about international route, containing different rolling stock.
So it included VL80 electrohauler's model, covered with snow and and icicles around its ventilation intakes on the roof - showing, that it's just from Siberian winter :)

That was interesting idea excluding the moment, then someone ride this model in not-winter environment.
But the topic, wich we discuss here, gives me a good portion of optimism about that.
