Now that 'manual braking' is working in Open Rails we can run unfitted freight trains. At the top of inclines these trains need to stop and apply a number of wagon hand brakes. At the bottom of the incline the train needs to stop again and release the hand brakes. It can be difficult to remember which wagons you have applied brakes on and which you have not - particularly if you have a long train of 50 or 100 wagons. Would it be possible to change this:

So that we can clearly see which hand brakes are ON - perhaps something like this:

I do recommend something like this, since even in trains with air brakes it's easy to forget which ones are on while doing some switching

I Agree!
An indication of which cars have handbrakes applied would be useful.
The Monson RR ran into the 1940's with NO Vacuum or Air Brake.
All they had was the Loco's Independent and Consist Handbrakes.
On the downgrade to the Junction, handbrakes MUST be applied to several cars
to aid the Independent Brake in stopping at the Station.
This would be useful for ANY pre-Air Brake, or pre-Vacuum Brake Route!
I suggest one color (i.e. RED) for Handbrake, and another color (i.e. BLUE) for Air Brakes?

I join to speakers, who said "agree".
At least, MSTS had wag or eng pictograms, in F9 driving aid turned red, if HB were applied there.

Sorry if you don't understand, Google will translate.
In Hungary, for trains running with manual braking, the driver whistled to the brakers.
Pay attention - a long whistle
to brake . . . three short whistles
release the brake - . . one long, two short whistles
Maybe we could move in that direction as well.

Yes, I've read the same about railroad thru Suram pass.
There were neither radio, nor telephone, (1900-th) so only whisle used.
Furthermore, the communication with helper's crew were managed the same way as well.

I like Howky's pictogram ideas.
As to whistle for brakes - we need care - it would have to be defined locally for different routes.
In UK there were whistles listed in the sectional appendices for drivers to communicate with signal boxes which route they were expecting to take - also to confirm with banking engines when they were in place and ready to start - so whistles have many different uses. As well as warnings of course.

Anything would be welcome that would supply more accurate information about the "state of a car" at a glance.
